Mega Market Mayhem
What I did
- Designed gameplay as part of a 7–10 person team over nine months
- Implemented the game in Unity (C#) as engine implementer
- Built an attack system that syncs hits and motions to the level's soundtrack
- Helped teammates manage their workload
Mega Market Mayhem is a 2D fighting platformer where ordinary grocery-store items brawl. It has a cartoon look inspired by the Fleischer animation style, and the fighters use “hammer space” moves, pulling oversized props out of nowhere. It was made by a team of 7–10 at Pentad Games, then Vellum Games.
Challenges
The biggest challenge was creating an expressive attack system that could sync its hits and motions to the level’s soundtrack.
Outcome and lessons
This project taught me an incredible amount about multiplayer game architecture and the importance of responsive combat systems, as well as the effects of project management software and how to help team members manage workload.
